- LONG bed sheets and pillow
- Alarm clock
- Phone card
- Stereo/music
- At least one spoon, fork, knife, can opener, tupperware container, plate (plastic is fine- or Nate Magee's Only Frisbee works well too)
- Pots and pans
- Sports equipment (frisbees etc.)
Lathrop has an office from which residents can borrow volleyballs, pool cues etc., movies, tvs, board games, and the like. Just make sure you return them on tims
so you don't get put on the dreaded BAD LIST.
- MOSQUITO REPELLENT and sunscreen
- BOOTS (get them waterproofed)
- Rain gear (at least a parka)
- Sleeping bag and pad (several of us bought these at Freddy's)
- Tents also come in handy (or make friends with someone who has one)
Tents are available for rental from the Student Activities office, and are included with most tours, but they only have a finite supply...
- Miscellaneous camping equipment (water bottles, hats, sunglasses, extra socks, backpack...)
- Bikes can come in handy.
There is regular bus service to most points of interest (including Fred Meyer) from the Wood Student Center, but to get other
places on your own schedule a bike might be better. You can have your bike shipped from home on the airline (for extra) or buy a cheap used one
in Fairbanks (at Fred's of course) and then sell it back at the end of the summer.
- In order to cash your checks, you need to get a bank account (or send the them home). There is a Key Bank within walking distance from campus and
several of us set up accounts for the summer. The only catch is you need to have it open for 90 days with $150 minimum in it or face a penalty charge. They
suggest to withdraw all but $150 when you leave and they'll send a check when the 90 days is up. Or bring traveler's checks
It also has been brought to my attention that Northern Schools Credit Union (near McDonalds on Geist Rd.) has a great account policy and doesn't charge
you at all.
