Hello and welcome! I am a Research Associate at the Alaska Volcano Observatory, Geophysical Institute of the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. My research interests include petrology of volcanic rocks with emphasis on the dynamics of magma processes at active volcanoes. My educational background is a peculiar mix of igneous petrology, experimental petrology, analytical techniques, and remote sensing – all of them seem to be useful in studying and monitoring volcanoes of Alaska and Kamchatka. I spend my summer time in a field conducting research and teaching the field based International Volcanological School.

Recent news:

10/21/2009 The summer field season was really successful. Please take a look at new photo albums. I am processing samples, acquiring new data, and enjoying winter in Alaska.

5/25/2009 As always the forthcoming summer field season promises to be busy and exciting. After the annual field trip to Katmai (June 7-20) I will participate in the JKASP meeting (June 21-27). My post-meeting field trip to Augustine volcano is scheduled for June 28 - July 3. The Kamchatka field works are planned for mid July - late August and will include sampling  Shiveluch and Bezymianny volcanoes as part of our PIRE-Kamchatka project, followed by the Mutnovsky / Gorely session of the International Volcanological School.
